Good vision is key for all students to excel academically. Visual difficulties can negatively impact your child’s reading performance at school. It is essential that we diagnose all learning related visual problems at the earliest so that we increase the chance of managing learning disability successfully.
As pointed out by research 80% of our learning comes from the visual inputs or more so how our brain processes all the visual inputs and integrates with the inputs from other senses.
- Does your child avoids reading or near work?
- Does your child exhibit short attention span while reading?
- Does your child reverses, omits or confuses letters or words while reading?
- Do you feel that your child is smart yet facing difficulties in academics?
If you answer yes to any of the above then this is the right place to discover more about your child.
Current research suggests that 1 in every 4 children experiences learning disability. All children with learning disability may not necessarily experience difficulty in seeing or need spectacles to remediate their problems. Your child may pass an eye examination but fails at studies. It’s often difficult to recognize such subtle challenges faced by children during a routine eye examination and needs an experienced optometrist to identify the difficulties faced by these children.
Watch for the symptoms listed below in your child so that they give a clue if your child is experiencing any visual challenges.
- Avoiding studies or disinterested in near activities
- Holding books close to the eyes
- Poor reading, writing and handwriting skills
- Losing place while reading
- Difficulty in board copying
- Covering one or both eyes
- Rubbing of eyes frequently
- Headaches or eye pain while reading
- Poor reading comprehension
- Difficulty completing homework on time
- Poor attention and concentration in class
If your child shows any of the above signs, its time to visit your Optometrist. If undiagnosed and untreated your child may feel less motivated, experience low self-esteem and depressed.
At PreciEyes a detailed functional vision assessment is carried out to diagnose the enduring visual challenges faced by your child. A vision therapy program will likely be recommended to strengthen the visual skills of your child. Your child’s eye movement skills, tracking and focusing ability and visual
Integration abilities would be trained during the vision therapy program. This would help your child to improve reading fluency, comprehension, attention and concentration that creates a positive impact on the child’s academics. The sooner the diagnosis is carried out the faster the child can overcome his obstacles and improve his performance at school.
